A partnership with Building Goodness Foundation and Seeds for Progress has helped revitalize a coffee-growing community by replacing an aging one-room schoolhouse. Check out the success story at the Building Goodness Foundation project page.

This project update, one year following the completion of the school, highlights the transformation:

You may remember the primary school we built in the rural Guatemalan village of El Zapotal last year—perhaps you volunteered your skills for its construction, donated to our Guatemala Fund, or followed along as we shared stories and photos from the site. In any case, we’re proud to give you an update on this school and the transformational impact that it has had within the El Zapotal community! The school has reached full enrollment, which is an incredible achievement, especially considering how many students were not willing to attend the old school because of the leaky roof, broken bathrooms, and crumbling walls that made them feel unsafe and undervalued. And as more students and families have decided to attend and participate, the quality of the school has only continued to grow. For example, thanks to the support of the local community and the Guatemalan Ministry of Education, the road to the school has been paved and a new perimeter fence has been built to create a sheltered learning environment. We’re thrilled to see that this school has become such an integral part of its community.
